We are having our own version of a clam bake next holiday weekend, with lobster, steamers, and my friend wants scallops, I’m not a big fan of scallops, so I’m not sure how to cook them, we are getting abut 2lbs of fresh scallops along with the rest, any other suggestions for our meal? or methods of cooking them?

I adore scallops!!! I hope these recipes help!!

BACON WRAPPED SCALLOPS

24 Scallops
bacon
brown sugar
toothpicks

Wrap scallops with bacon. Skewer with toothpicks.
Sprinkle brown sugar on top. Broil 2-3 minutes, flip and repeat.

STEAMED SCALLOPS

3 lb. scallops
1/4 c. lime juice
1/4 c. orange juice
1/4 c. grapefruit juice
1/2 c. white wine
3 shallots, chopped
4 cloves garlic, chopped
1 c. creme fraiche
1 tsp. cracked black pepper

Steam first 7 ingredients. Remove scallops with slotted spoon. Reduce liquid by half. Add creme and cracked pepper. Pour over scallops and serve.

STEAMED WHOLE SCALLOPS MARINIERE

2 lb. scallops in their shells
1 c. white wine
3 tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
2 shallots, very finely chopped

In a large, flame-proof casserole with a tight-fitting lid, arrange the scallops, wine, and shallots. Cover the pan with the lid and set it over high heat. Let the scallops steam in the hot liquid for 5 minutes, shaking the pan once or twice, until all are open.
Divide the scallops among 4 deep plates and sprinkle with parsley. Spoon the cooking juices over each serving. Pass crusty, toasted bread for dipping into the juices. Serves 4.

Just had a tail for dinner. I would definitely thaw it first as the outer parts will cook before the inside is thawed. You will end up with a rubbery mess.

If you have auto defrost on your micro wave, use it to quickly thaw this luscious dish.

Then, rather than boiling it, consider putting it in a skillet with a half cup water, a little salt, pepper and butter. Cover with a lid and let that baby steam for 10-13 minutes. So, yes, it is about 1 minute per ounce, but keep checking it so that it is not overcooked.

Ok. Now this is something that happens to me every one in a while and when it does it scares me sh*tless. Some examples of this is once i woke up to go and use the bathroom (note I am fully awake) and I come back out to go to bed and when I went back to the doorway into my bedroom I saw giant tentacles coming out of my bed and started flailing around at witch point I obviously ran in the opposite direction screaming in absolute terror. Once sense came back to me I warily made my way back to the doorway and I found that it was not there (no surprise) and I think that it is worth mentioning that In each of these examples that something that happened earlier in the day was in some way connected to the horror that occured. Like, in the previous example I watched the discovery channel program "Blue Earth" in witch squids were shown. Another example possibly the scariest one of all was in witch I awoke and found that there were lobsters crawling around in the bed with me. When I saw this I just bolted out of my bed and floor that my room was on and was screening bloody murder because of the fact that the lobsters didn’t have rubber bands on their claws and the fact that they scare me anyways when they aren’t crawling on me. And when I got the courage to go back they weren’t there (Note: when they were in the bed with me I could actually FEEL them). And this related to the earlier day because we cooked fresh live lobsters for dinner. Any help and or knowledge on what and or why this scary stuff is happening to me is MUCH appreciated.
Also note that as far as I know I am not subject to hallucinations.
Might be hypnagogic hallucinations although I doubt it.
Though as far as I know I do not suffer from hallucinations but from looking at wikipedia it

Sounds like you are having pretty crazy hallucinations, they could occur for a variety of reasons, from something as simple as diet change, to full blown schizophrenia(I am by no means saying you are schizophrenic), my advice is to go to a professional, and see what they think about what is happening to you.

does it mean they werent fresh? How can i tell if they are bad? they are normally 21.99 pound and i got .66 pounds for 6 dollars.

They were probably so cheap because they were frozen once and have now thawed. They cannot freeze them again, so they have to get rid of them quickly. Yes, they are probably still good, they cannot sell something knowing it is bad.

Broil them in the oven, or grill them on the barbecue.

In the Oven
Lobster tails can be baked or broiled in the oven. Set the oven to 400 degrees F. Brush the tails with butter and bake for 8 to 10 minutes. If broiling, place the tails 4 or 5 inches from the heat and broil for 2 – 5 minutes. When broiling keep a very close eye on them so that they don’t burn on the tops.

On The Grill
Oil the grill to keep the lobsters from sticking. Put the grill on medium heat. Brush the Lobster Tails with butter and place on the grill. Make sure that the tails do not burn – if there are any flames on the grill move the lobster away from it. Grill on each side for 4-5 minutes. Take care not to overcook your lobster or it will be rubbery and tasteless. Lobster is cooked when it is no longer transparent.

You could always boil them, too…

Boiling
Boil a pot of water large enough for all the tails to float in, add 1 tsp salt for each quart of water. Drop the tails in the boiling water and cook for about 1 minute per oz thawed (so 10 0z of tails needs to cook for 10 minutes). If you are cooking a lot of tails, add a minute or two on to the total time.

I heard that you need to Cook Lobsters and crabs when they are alive, because if you let them die or kill them, they will release some kinda toxicant into they body, is that right??

Last week, I went to a sea food restaurant and he had some fresh lobsters sitting on ice, I asked him if these are cooked, he said no. I told him about the toxicants thingy, he said I am wrong.

I think the sea food restaurant guy is clueless, right??

This pretty much applies to cattle and swine who might suspect "the end is near". You need to kill them as gently as possible usually involving a major thump on the forehead via gun or mechanical device so this urge doesn’t kick in and render the meat tough via the stress hormones involved. Chasing them around causes distress – you don’t want this. It will release stress hormones that will effect the meat.
Lobsters/crabs/shrimps don’t have this ‘feeling’ therefore, will not produce the ‘toxicant’.
They are more closely related to spiders than mammals or other animals.

I would like to be able to pick some up easily in the afternoon to take home to cook a meal for that special someone.

Also, a meal for two, let’s say Thermidore, how heavy a lobster do I want for one good sized half each?

http://www.londontown.com/LondonInformation/Restaurant/Fishworks/7f40/

Found this link. Glad you asked the question as I myself rely on Waitrose for frozen Lobster Tails but had not looked into finding live lobster for sale.

Cheers
